HOW DOES IT WORK? F.A.Q.

  1. How are recommended actions selected?
The administrators of each local group take time to research the websites of many of the leading campaigning organisations.
Current issues are selected and an email is sent to the list giving the outline of the proposed action and providing the Internet address.

  2. Are there any restrictions on the selection of subjects for campaigns?
Yes.  Justice Mail only supports campaigns being sponsored by recognised and well established charities whose reputation for careful research is outstanding.  Many of these are church related such as Church Action on Poverty, the Jubilee Debt Campaign and Christian Aid, but others have no particular church affiliation.  These include OXFAM, the World Development Movement, Amnesty International, Shelter and the Refugee Council.  Although we welcome campaigning suggestions from members they are only approved if they are supported by one of these responsible bodies.

  3. Would I have to respond to every action request?
No.  Justice Mail is providing a service which you are invited to use at your discretion.  We assume that having joined us, you are ready to take action as we suggest but we recognise that for whatever reason you may not respond every time.

  4. Are there any religious requirements for membership?
No.  Although Justice Mail is a church-based organisation, we are completely open to all who seek for a better world.  People from various religions and with no religious background are all welcome.

  5. Are there any charges for membership?
There are no charges of any kind.  Justice Mail is a free service.

  6. Can I form my own group?
We encourage the formation of groups in local churches in any denomination.
We would also welcome inquiries from people in Mosques, Synagogues, Temples or other local religious groups, and from groups based in places of work or residential areas with no particular religious affiliation.  Contact us for details.

  7. Is Justice Mail effective?
Justice Mail serves the great campaigning organisations.
From time to time they investigate the effectiveness of their campaigns and there is plenty of evidence that this kind of pressure works.

  8. What if I do not have an email address?
Paper letters are probably more effective then emails so provided you can find out about the action requests of your local group from someone who does have email you can participate effectively through paper letters.

  9. Do Justice Mail people ever get together?
Yes.  From time to time we arrange a meeting in some convenient location where we can meet each other, celebrate our growth and plan for the future.
    Watch this space!

  10. Do the local various groups work together?
We recognize that concerted action on a certain campaign would increase the pressure of that campaign.  On the other hand, we also want to contribute to the local culture of social justice activity and for this reason we encourage local group organisers to select their own issues.  Often these can be supported through local announcements, notice board displays and worship services devoted to the theme.
Managers of local groups receives each others action requests and often use them.

  11. How do I leave Justice Mail?
If for any reason you wish to leave Justice Mail just send an email to your local organiser and your name will be taken off our lists.
