Weddings

We delight in conducting marriages in church – and believe there is no better place to “tie the knot” than at the heart of this community – in its parish church, before God.

If you would like to book a wedding at St Andrew’s, please contact us by phone or email, or come to the church on a Sunday morning. Our main service takes place at 10am every Sunday (except the first Sunday of the month, when it’s 10.30). OR, pop in on a Friday morning (9.30-12) when the church is always open, and the vicar or another minister will be happy to make the necessary arrangements, and book the date for your wedding.

Each year we hold a special service, to which we invite all the couples who are to be married in the coming year. After the service, we have lunch together; listen to some wedding music on the church organ; and talk about arrangements for your wedding and a little about marriage and relationships.

There are a number of laws that govern where you can get married. You can read about them below… The rules are quite complicated – but essentially, assuming that at least one of you lives in St Andrew’s parish, you are both single and over eighteen years old; and neither of you have been divorced, it’s straightforward. If your circumstances are different, get in touch, and we’ll talk about the possibilities.

Q.   What do Christians believe about marriage?

A.   Christians believe that marriage is a gift from God. In the marriage ceremony, a couple make a public declaration of lifelong commitment to love each other, come what may.

Q.   I’m not baptised. I don’t go to church. Can I still get married in
       church?

A.   Yes! If you live in the parish of the church you want to marry in.

Q.   What if I want to be married in a different church?

A.   If you have a personal or family connection with a church or parish, it is usually possible to be married there. Just speak to the vicar.  If you are not a regular worshipper why not start attending? You will normally be expected to attend services for some time before becoming eligible to be married there.
