Christmas Musings

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we travel afar
Moor and Mountain
Field and fountain
Following yonder star

Ooooooo OOOOOOO……

You know you want to join in, you can just leave the OOOOOOO hanging, it has to be followed by “Star of Wonder, star of night”……

The wise men (and their entourage) followed a star to find out more about someone the scriptures spoke of. Someone who would transform our world, who would be the “Messiah”, the one who has come to save us.

Save us from what?

From ourselves and the mess we’ve made of things

The wise men came with wonder and awe, I wonder how you come to Christmas and what you seek. Is it just another school holiday, is it just another excuse for a party and a few days off work; a time to see family and friends or a time to shut ourselves away as frankly we just don’t feel Christmassy. Maybe your following the X Factor or Strictly to their Christmas time conclusions.

However we come to Christmas; whether we feel Christmassy, or if we really don’t enjoy it at all, there is something more at the heart of the story which offers real hope and real life. Life lived in the knowledge of the love of God, who came as a human baby for our sake, so that we could get close to him and learn how to live in a new way of love and peace. It’s a 2,000 year old promise which is still working itself out, but it takes folk like you and folk like me to receive it and try to live it.

May you come in wonder this year and meet with Jesus again, reciving from him the gifts that he gives even as we offer him our very lives.

Christmas Blessings,

Chris
